Instagram is experimenting with “ad breaks” that force users to pause and view ads before continuing to scroll.
The feature, currently being tested with some users, displays an icon with a countdown timer, preventing further browsing until the ad is seen.
While Instagram already shows sponsored posts and ads, this new format feels more intrusive.
YouTube and TikTok also use unskippable ads, but Instagram’s approach disrupts the user experience. The company aims to enhance advertiser value, but user backlash remains a concern.
